Jekyll Island Club Hotel: A Tour

Jekyll Island Club Hotel: A Tour | CosmosMariners.com

In the last two days, I've learned, explored, and photographed more than I ever imagined I could in less than 48 hours. One might not think that there would be so much to cram into a short vacation on an island that's only 7 miles long and 1.5 miles wide--but there definitely is.

The crown jewel in my vacation has, hands down, been our stay at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. There's history everywhere around here, and I've loved soaking up every moment. I've got a bunch of posts coming up on the history of the Club, the dining, and the activities (so stay tuned for that), but today, I'm going to walk you through this incredible property.

So, where to start? The Jekyll Island Club Hotel (JICH because I get all tangly fingered when I write out the entire thing) has 157 rooms, dates back to the late 1800s, and is located on one of Georgia's Golden Isles.

When you arrive at the hotel, you'll come up to the main porte cochere where the bellmen will help you with your bags.

Well, that's what you'll do if you're normal and paying attention to the signs. If you are not normal (I'm nominating myself here), you'll wander through the parking lot to the Sea Turtle Rescue while your sister hollers, "This is NOT where we need to be!" before actively avoiding the valet parking (even though it's free) because you massacred at least a thousand bugs on your car before arriving at the hotel.

Once the bellmen help you with your bags, you'll check in at the front desk, just through the Palm Court.

With your key in hand (and it's still an actual, gigantic metal key!), you can peruse through the Hall of Mirrors before admiring the meeting rooms that are located just off of it.

At the end of the hall is the main staircase, the lobby bar, and the Grand Dining Room.

You'll probably want to head up to your room, so you'll figure out if you're in the main building, the Annex, or one of the cottages. For this trip, my sister and I were in the Annex, which is located just to the right of the front of the building. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay--the room we had (3202) had a huge sleeping area, a desk, a fireplace, a sitting area, and a covered sun porch.

Once you've oohed and aahhed over your room, you might want to head out to the pool, bike on some of the island's 20 miles of trail, or head over the beach. There's complementary shuttle service all over the island, so the island's really there for your taking.

I've stayed in many, many hotels, but the Jekyll Island Club Hotel now reigns at my favorite (for many reasons to be discussed in a future post). It's really no stretch to see why 1/6th of the world's wealth used to come here for the winter season!
