Road Trip! Jekyll Island Bound

Fall really is the perfect time to travel in the South. The weather is (slightly) cooler than it has been, and the crowds are so much lighter.

I'm taking full advantage of this gorgeous time of year and heading out on a road trip with my sister and daughter in tow.

Our destination? Somewhere that I've wanted to visit for a long, long time:

The Jekyll Island Club Hotel on Jekyll Island, Georgia

Jekyll Island Hotel Club, Jekyll Island, Georgia
Eek! I'm so excited!!

It was built back in the late 1800s as a winter retreat for America's most elite families, including the Rockefeller, Vanderbilts, and Astors. If you wanted to see and be seen during the winter season back in the day, you'd better get your butt on a train to Georgia.

Now, all of us common folk can go walk in the footsteps of these icons at the hotel, which has been restored to its late Victorian glory. I may or may not pretend to be famous while I'm there. Ha.

During our mini-vacation Jekyll, we're going to try and take in all of the history, architecture, and fun that we can. I'm a huge history buff, so I can't wait to learn more about the people who built this gorgeous landmark, as well as the famous people who put it on the map.

I certainly hope you'll follow along on our adventures while I'm there! I'm going to try and update my blog as much as I can, but you can get more up-to-date pictures on my Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook accounts!

Have you ever been to Jekyll Island? Do you like staying in historic hotels?
