Confession: I've really, really enjoyed being home these last few weekends. I don't know if its because I was so on the go so much in 2015, or if it's because I'm so excited about what we've got going on around the house lately, but not traveling has felt decadent since we got back from Ireland.

In fact, other than a few small weekend-type getaways with family this spring, my travel calendar is surprisingly open for the rest of 2016. I've been trying to figure out where I want to go, but I've having lots of trouble with actually narrowing down those choices. I've love to see more of the U.S., but that seems overwhelming, and I don't know where to start: California, Texas, the Grand Canyon? I'd also love to somewhere in Canada, since I've only been there once (to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia), but again, don't even know where to start. Leave me some inspiration in the comments!

This past weekend, I got around to doing something that's been in the works for over a year: painting the master bedroom. We moved in on Halloween of 2014, and our house has been woefully neglected since then, thanks to the fact that parenting a small kid is a full-time job unto itself, I've been working nearly a full-time job on the blog and my freelance writing (as well as keeping up with my daughter), and traveling nearly every month since we moved in. Right now, the room is just a big white box, but I have BIG plans for it. I can't wait to show it off when we're finished decorating.

Now, onto the Odds + (Week) Ends travel round-up! Here's what captured my attention this week:

Who else loves afternoon tea?! I started dreaming of cucumber sandwiches and scones with clotted cream when I came across this article. Here are some gorgeous English country houses that offer a spectacular afternoon tea. Come dress in your best and indulge in those Downton Abbey dreams you've always had.

When traveling, my husband and I prefer to rent a car since it gives us so much flexibility, but there are definitely times that train travel is the way to go. I've always wanted to go to rail trip across Europe, and this post about the differences between Interrail and Eurail is super helpful for people who've never made use of these two brand before. Do you like train travel? Where have you gone via train?

Bibliophiles, pack your bags. We're moving. These adorable book towns have created a trade in the printed page, and all have lovely bookstores to browse for new reading material. Too bad none are in the U.S., or I'd be planning a road trip immediately. Even so, these are being added to the itinerary the next time I go abroad.

We've all been there: you're traveling in a group, and someone starts an argument, which escalates and makes everyone miserable. Group travel--whether you're going with a large group of family members or in a pre-arranged tour group--can offer plenty of perks, like discounts on attractions and customized itineraries, but it's not always easy to travel with others. This post covers ways to avoid the group travel drama and what to do if things go south. Do you like traveling with big groups of family or friends? Have you had any difficult situations arise out of group travel?

While I'd much rather head off to somewhere new with my husband and daughter, sometimes a good solo trip can be incredibly freeing. If you're thinking of getting away from the rat race for a little while and you want some time to yourself, here are some great suggestions on where to travel alone. Would you rather travel with others or by yourself?
