I’m one of those people who is obsessed with taking pictures when I’m traveling (and when I’m home and at family gatherings and…well, you get the idea). For me, photos of my adventures in London or that boat ride we took in the Bahamas are the perfect souvenir.

It should come as no surprise that I’m a little picky with the camera that I use when traveling. I was always a point and shoot kid until one of my friends in college bought a Nikon D80, and I discovered what possibilities awaited me with a higher end camera.

My first DSLR

As a college student, I didn’t have a lot of extra money, so I scrimped and pinched for months to save up enough to buy a Nikon D40. Although I didn't have a lot of technique or training, I was obsessed with that camera, and it became my go-to camera for years afterwards.

The first day with my Nikon and already in love

Sadly, the Nikon D40 started to spend more and more time on the shelf when I realized my shoulders would ache after carrying it around for an entire day of sightseeing. Sure, it takes incredible photos (especially for someone who was essentially a beginner at that point), but the camera also required me to pack extra Tylenol any time we were going anywhere. It’s not the lightest of cameras, and I wanted something that was easy to haul around and took fantastic photo souvenirs.

Enter my beloved Sony A6000. I made the plunge into the mirrorless camera world after realizing that I’d left my Nikon at home on purpose for the last several trips, and all I had were some fuzzy, out of focus photos from an Olympus point-and-shoot that I’d kept around since 2007. I’ve had the A6000 for 3 years now, and I am just as in love now as I was the first time I held it.

That poor Nikon still hangs around the house and gets pulled out for the occasional product shoot for the blog or family gathering, but, for the most part, it sits sadly and unloved on a shelf in my closet. That’s such a terrible ending for the camera that was the initial reason I got so excited about photography.

If you, like me, tend to collect cameras, you’ve probably got a few hanging around the house collecting dust. Even if they have sentimental value, like my Nikon does for me, isn’t it probably better to give them new life elsewhere?

The Next Chapter for My Camera

I vote yes, and this is where KEH.com will become your new best friend. Instead of letting your camera languish in your closet or camera bag, see what you can get for it on the website (or use the money from the sale of your old camera as credit towards on of the others in their extensive inventory!).

On the next page, you’ll see a variety of options for what you can sell. In this case, my search for Nikon D40 brought up a selection of bodies and lenses.
