If you haven't noticed, the Nordic countries are having a major moment in the travel industry now. While Iceland gets much of the focus, there's plenty to see and do in Finland, Greenland, Sweden, and Norway as well!

They call it the Land of the Midnight Sun, but did you know that Norway has a whole lot more to offer than a sun that never entirely sets during the summer months? From the breath-taking beauty of its Fjords to picture pretty cities that are always Instagram-ready, Norway is a truly unique place to visit with lots to see and do for tourists young and old alike.

(And, for all of those Frozen movie lovers out there, you'll see where the animators got their inspiration for Arendelle!)

1. The Western Fjords

If you’re going to Norway, then of a trip to see

the Fjords

has to be right at the top of your list. Traveling to Norway and not going to see the Fjords is akin to venturing to Rome and skipping a trip to the Colosseum. It’s something that just shouldn't happen.

The Norwegian Fjords, which were formed by glacial activity during a succession of ice ages, are a truly spectacular sight to see. These Fjords are dotted throughout the country and not limited to one particular area, but the best of the lot are in the west of the country. Make the trip. You won’t be disappointed.

2. Svalbard

For any adventurers out there, I direct you to Svalbard. One of the world’s northernmost inhabited areas, Svalbard is more than a little bit off the beaten path, lying between mainland Norway and the North Pole.

So, not only may you get to experience the amazing natural wonder that is the Northern Lights, you might also get to wave hello to Santa Claus as he sets off on his annual trip around the world! Svalbard is known for its rugged beauty; travelers who venture this far north want to experience the north in all of its glory.

3. Oslo

You’ve had your fill of nature, so how about a dash of culture and a bit of fine dining?

Time to go to Oslo, Norway’s capital city and also its centre of culture. With over fifty museums, you’ll be spoilt for choice with great things to do in this vibrant city. Even if museums are not entirely your thing, you have to check out the Munch Museum, which features one of the most famous paintings in the world ‘The Scream’ by Edvard Munch.

The Viking Ship Museum at the Museum of Cultural History houses three 19th century Viking ships, and is a fun day out that people of all ages in your travel party will enjoy. Once you're all cultured, make a stop for dinner at one of Oslo’s top restaurants.

‘Olivia’ is the place to go if you are in the mood for some hearty Italian fare, or, if you prefer to eat as the Norwegians do, then make a stop at ‘Kolonihagen.' Warning: you may find Rudolph on the menu here.

Have you visited Norway? Is it on your list of places to visit?
